DEFECTIVE LattePanda 2G board doesn't boot

We just received a 2GB/32GB board. After powering up the board with a direct USB adapter to wall outlet and pressing the power on switch the display (we opted for the led and touch controller as well) the lattepanda logo is displayed with a legend "attempting recovery procedure" (or words to that effect. About a minute later the board simply powers off. I've also attempted the reinstall procedure as explained on https://docs.lattepanda.com/, although I'm pretty sure this wasn't the problem.

So windows 10 is pre-installed on these boards, right? How does one get the system up?
