Can't upload Arduino sketches (new out-of-the-box 2G/32G)

I'm trying to upload Blink (or any sketch) to the Arduino. Upload hangs for about a minute then fails. Device Manager says the ATm32U4DFU is missing a driver. Arduino set to Leonardo/AVRISP MkII, COM1 (only port that shows up). Tried suggestion of holding down the Arduino reset button before upload, but no effect.

I've read every forum post I can find here and elsewhere, but no working solution. Missing something, or bad board?
