How to Generate a UUID for LattePanda Models

Introduction to UUID

A Universally Unique Identifier (UUID) is a 128-bit number used to uniquely identify information in computer systems. However, not all systems come with a UUID by default. For instance, LattePanda models, with the exception of the LattePanda Mu(LattePanda Mu comes with a UUID already), do not have a pre-assigned UUID. To address this, users can generate a UUID using a provided tool. This tutorial will guide you through the process of generating and activating a UUID for your LattePanda device.

Prerequisites

- LattePanda model (excluding the LattePanda Mu)
- Download the attached tool for generating a UUID

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Tool

Unzip the attached file containing the UUID generation tool. Locate the executable file named `DMIEDITx64.EXE` and run it. 

Step 2: Access UUID Settings

Navigate to `[Type 001] -- System Information -> uuid`. Here, you will find the current UUID setting for your system. To modify it, double-click on the `UUID` field.

Step 3: Generate UUID

A dialog box will appear with an option to "Auto Generates system UUID." Select this option to allow the tool to automatically create a new UUID for your LattePanda.

Step 4: Update System Information

After the UUID has been generated, you need to update the system information to reflect the change. Click on "Update -> Current Type" to save the newly generated UUID to your system's DMI records.

Step 5: Activate the UUID

To complete the process and activate the UUID, you need to restart your system. Once the system has been restarted, the new UUID will be in effect and your LattePanda will have a unique identifier.

Verifying the UUID

To confirm that the UUID has been successfully generated, you can use the following steps:

1. Press WIN+R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog box.

2. Type cmd and press Enter to open the Command Prompt.

3. In the Command Prompt, type wmic and press Enter to access the Windows Management Instrumentation Command-line tool.

4. Next, type csproduct and press Enter. 

5. You should now see the UUID information displayed on the screen. If the UUID shown matches the one you generated, then the process was successful.
