Topic: Ideas for Containing LattePanda EDP Touch Screens

Continuing HALRADS journey from the previous discussion (https://www.lattepanda.com/forum/topic/333779), where we introduced a case for the Sigma along with a full-sized HDD and promised to integrate touch screen displays, we're embarking on a new phase.

The Need for a Bigger Boat - Sigma Display Case

Our initial concept involved pairing the LattePanda Sigma with a 7" EDP touch screen. The case, pictured, is still a work in progress. Special thanks to TOMA Fabrications for their craftsmanship and collaboration on these (mostly their custom designs – provided with inputs and constraints). The case, predominantly crafted from laser-cut acrylic sheet, was designed to accommodate additional components like audio DCC and LED matrix lights.

Dimensions are 230mm wide x 260mm high x 190mm deep.

Lower right: Example of a 7” touch bezel and back plate conceived start of a handheld ‘steam deck’ like formfactor.

Lights: the bottom section so far includes a 56 x 8 LED matrix consisting of seven 8x8 addressable HDR LED panels daisy chained in a U shape behind 3 sides. This is just a start more to be added to the top half.  The material color is what I came to call ICY it works great as a diffuser and so far has eluded my ability to capture a photograph that shows it off.

Behind the Screen View: This upper half of the case highlights standard-length cables extended to bridge the distance between the PCB and the front-mounted screen.

Parts used to extend the Video and Touch cables with the Sigma and 7” “v3” EDP Touch screen:

·      Touch: uxcell 0.5mm Pitch 6 Pins to 6 Pins Extension Connector Aapter for FFC FPC Cable Extend Zip HDD

Cool as it is, that is put on hold for now.  Why you ask?

We Got a Bigger Boat! (The 11.6" EDP Touch Screen)

Just as our display case was taking shape, news of the 11.6" EDP display emerged, temporarily shifting our focus. This larger screen offers enhanced brightness, sharper resolution (1920x1080 FHD), and significantly increased desktop real estate compared to its 7" predecessor (1024x600). This compelling upgrade has prompted us to pause the envisioned 7" concepts for now.

I found the screen(S) worked exactly as expected with no issues with the display panel or the integrated touch functionality with both the Delta 3 and Sigma. Other than swapping out the cables and paying close attention to which way the pins face it’s a drop-in replacement for the 7” screen.

The 11.6" EDP Screen - All-In-One (AIO) Case

Our latest design centers on integrating the 11.6" EDP screen with the Delta3 and or the Sigma and or the MU (lite). This AIO configuration promises streamlined functionality and FHD resolution in a compact form factor.

Future Prospects

The 11.6" EDP screen is an excellent choice for those seeking high-resolution displays in compact designs.  The brightness is excellent, and the touch overlay just works.  Stay tuned as we continue to explore its capabilities in new builds, with MORE LEDs, Human presence sensing and some RGB controllable (Lighted) switches are being added to give us the next integration challenges.

Don't Stop the Tape Yet!

As a bonus, TOMA Fabrications (www.tomafabrications.com)  developed a standalone case for the Delta3 and Sigma if you would prefer a configuration without integrated screen. Check out the modified magnetic feet on the Delta3 case below.

This sequel builds upon the initial project's themes of customization, integration, and ongoing exploration of LattePanda ‘s capabilities, focusing now on Latte Pandas larger touch screen displays and their applications.

 Thanks for reading –

 best, HALRAD.
