You Reply: thanks for the tutorial. I've got the acrylic case and the parts definitely DO NOT stick together by applying pressure as in the video. It will need some glue.

You Reply: Hi,
Couldn't wait so I felt brave and played with the settings myself
I managed to have all the CPU's maxed out but still noticed that when playing a video using a GPU-assisted renderer (madVR) the CPU's were dropping to minimum speed.
It turned out that the Cherry Trail has a power target shared between CPU and GPU and that if the GPU is maxed out, then there must be a compromise with the processors. Too bad.
Anyway to answer my question - for the records - you do not need to do anything in the BIOS, the settings are handled by Windows.
Open Power Options, select "change plan setting" and then "change advanced power settings".
You'll find "Processor power management" and you can set the minimum at 100% - that will cause the processors to stay at 100% all the time.
If "Processor power management" is missing as on my Panda (it was there before but something must have happened?) then follow this link
http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/51 ... state.html
The same link also says that Virtualisation should be disabled in the BIOS for those controls to show up. I have disabled mine, not sure if that made a difference, I still had to tweak the registry to see the control.
Thanks

You Reply: Windows keeps the previous version of Windows when upgrading - the anniversary upgrade is a full OS upgrade as you were moving from, say, Windows 7 to Windows 10. The disk cleanup should have the 'previous windows versions' checkbox available, which I guess you can remove after confirming that the new version is working fine.
Are you saying that you have done that and now you're still missing 6GB?
-
You Reply: Hi Parker
I don't understand. Once the Panda has been actively cooled, it does not reach 80+ degrees and does not throttle anymore. What's the point of tweaking the registry then? I feel that if the CPU reaches 80+ degrees, I want it to slow down to prevent damage regardless!
I thought it was a CPU built-in feature though, not a Windows one?

You Reply: I am aware that Windows Defender is the worst antivirus ever but to be honest I installed Avast on my brother's PC and he caught a virus (avast was not protecting from emails apparently). Moved to Windows Security essentials and that never happened again! If my brother can use it...
-
You Reply: Yay! Well done!
Anti-virus are often worse than viruses. I've been using Windows Defender for many years now, I know it's not the best one but never had an issue. If you are computer-savvy, a basic AV is all you need.
Back in topic, did you also have to reset tablet mode to desktop mode - or do you usually use the LP in tablet mode?
-
You Reply: I may be on the wrong end of the stick but that error seems to apply to something that doesn't apply to your system - and the file name mentions windows 1607 which - if not mistaken - you do not have yet?
-
You Reply: I'm using the LP as a media player, mobility is not required
Sorry for being a pessimist here but I really doubt that removing the battery can help! It seems that Microsoft is updating the installation program to tackle all the various issues. As you noticed MS has taken a slow pace with the update - they're not rushing it. I reckon they want all to be smooth and successful. That's why they started with newer PC's. I heard that there has been issues on PC's with SSD drives on. My PC has an SSD and still it doesn't find the update. It makes sense that their servers are checking for specific parameters and delay the update on potentially problematic machines till solutions are found.
Also: I do not believe in OS updates. These are, unfortunately, full OS updates like when you switch from W7 to W8. I hate them. When I installed my W10 I updated first (for licensing reasons) then I immediately wiped the disk and reinstalled from scratch. If your LP refuses to upgrade, it may be your only solution.
But in the end did you manage to find any error codes??

You Reply: My bandwidth requirements are quite high so I am wired. I believe I noticed the onboard wifi was not very good but only tried for a few minutes before giving up
-
You Reply: yes you are correct: my build is what's supposed to be with the anniversary update on - yours is just the previous version.
You are in good company - no worries! I have been lucky! And I'm talking about Windows 10, not the LattePanda!
-
You Reply: I have forced both the LP and my work laptop (I couldn't afford the update to take place when I needed the devices) but I haven't on my main PC and it still hasn't happened on it.
With W10 the way Microsoft handle the installation has changed and I believe the ISO provided by Lattepanda is indeed an installation ISO, it just makes sure that all the drivers are there. I doubt a fresh install could bring any improvement - but you should be able to try.
VNC or Teamviewer are a must on LP
May I recommend Remote Desktop? It's not included with Windows 10 Home but you can install it anyway.
https://github.com/stascorp/rdpwrap/releases
Follow the instructions here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCL4mrHSn6M
Run the update.bat to make sure the thing is updated - mine stopped working with the W10 update and had to be updated.
Once you're there, maybe here is a good starting point?

You Reply: Hi,
I haven't done the research you have done but I reckon the LP is seen as a proper Windows PC and you should not have issues updating. If it was not entitled to the update, the installation would warn you before starting.
I know how painful W10 failed installations/updates are and I know they are not easy to troubleshoot. Did you receive an error message?
On my LP I had to make some space on the main disk - not easy as the C drive is fairly small. But, again, the installer warned me that free space was not enough before I began.
BIOS-wise, I would really be happy to share that with you - if I only could remember. I remember I had a go at the BIOS out of curiosity. I believe I changed the startup behaviour, then when I saved Windows failed to boot. I power-cycled and it booted fine but with the Windows logo, not Lattepanda. Honestly, I doubt that that made any difference.
As BIOS cannot be reset - and as lots of people have bricked their LP by tinkering with the BIOS - I am a little reluctant to go back in the BIOS to check the settings, sorry.
But I feel there is nothing wrong with your BIOS. I would investigate on why the update fails - I'm sure there are some logs somewhere. Sorry I can't help more, thankfully all my Windows 10 updates/installations have completed successfully!

You Reply: Hi,
No, mine is as received. Any chance yours simply did not complete the anniversary update process? I started it by going on the windows update page and selecting LEARN MORE. that takes to a page where there's a link to start the update.
Also, I did wander into the BIOS one day, just out of curiosity. I cannot remember if I changed anything but since then I lost the Lattepanda logo when windows boots up - and as you can see I do not have it into the 'about' page too.
Maybe I changed the fastboot, disabling it? Or something similar. But I really doubt it it could affect the update. Can you try following the same route I followed and see what happens?

my update just worked. I didn't supervise it, just started remotely, then several hours later it was done.attachments:

You Reply: I had the same issue. Found that by default the on.board monitor is enabled. If you disable it, performances are much better.
Someone was also mentioning upgrading the drivers to what the Intel upgrade utility recommends but haven't tried yet.
I cannot remember where I disabled the monitor, whether windows or intel graphics HD
Hope this helps.

You Reply: Can you add "media player" to the list?
-
You Reply: that's correct. Once the system is registered at Microsoft, you don't need to do anything anymore.
-
You Reply: interesting. I force the update because I knew it would take ages and I didn't want that to happen when I needed the LP. However I didn't update via USB, I followed a Microsoft link. I came back after a few hours and it was ok.
I must say that the following time I turned it on it kind of froze - but I believe the previous version was doing the same, I'll have to look into that.
However, I noticed the LP keeps turning on in tablet mode. Found that there is an option which was set to "open in tablet mode", just change it to "desktop mode" and happy days.
The below is slightly inaccurate as the menu has changed, but takes you to the correct place.

You Reply: Hi
1. the board should be able to run at 100% without throttling because of temperature. Heathsink, fans, whatever is needed.
2. ability to reset the BIOS if something goes wrong - possibly the ability of re-flashing the BIOS if the upgrade goes wrong. Or maybe a backup BIOS system on board
3. Gigabit Ethernet
4. No 5V USB power! It's hard to find good 5V PSU with USB plug and also it won't help when powering fans and other things. I'd like to see a 12V socket so a good 12V PSU could be used for the LP and for anything else if required.

You Reply: Planic,
My advice is valid for any circuit board you may come across.
